Virgin Blue Group scored a much-needed win when the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission gave temporary approval for its alliance with Etihad Airways. That approval follows a green light for the tie-up from the UAE (see article, p. 42). ACCC previously issued a draft ruling rejecting the group's bid to forge an alliance with Air New Zealand, while US Dept. of Transportation tentatively rejected its application for antitrust immunity to form an alliance with Delta Air Lines.
