AA/BA/IB JV lifts off.(News Briefs)

Oneworld members American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia officially launched their long-planned joint venture Oct. 6, promising customers "far more choice and flexibility" when booking flights across the North Atlantic.

"This is largely [about] generating revenue synergies," BA CEO Willie Walsh said at a London news conference. AA Chairman and CEO Gerard Arpey noted that the "merging of our [transatlantic] businesses" creates an entity that is effectively an "airline with $7-$8 billion in annual revenue. …
