Qantas posted a 44.1% increase in net profit to $A970 million ($845.1 million) for the fiscal year ended June 30. Outgoing CEO Geoff Dixon said key drivers of the result, which featured a 7.5% year-over-year increase in revenue to A$16.19 billion, included "strong domestic and international demand."

The healthy result may help take the sting out of a tough CASA safety audit that "found maintenance performance within Qantas is showing some adverse trends and is now below the airline's own benchmarks," according to CASA Deputy CEO-Operations Mick Quinn. …
