Airplanes, not cigarettes, cause cancer.(odds&ends)

A new study from the UK-based Institute for Safer Aviation Noise and Emissions has determined that lung cancer and other diseases such as emphysema that historically have been linked to the long-term smoking of tobacco products are in fact largely caused by aircraft noise and emissions. The study is the first of its kind.


"We were quite surprised at the results," commented InSANE spokesperson Mary Pith-Helmet Windrush, "but when we looked at instances of lung cancer, although it's true that very many of the occurrences were among heavy smokers, what we noticed was that in every single instance these people had been exposed to aircraft noise and emissions long before they started smoking. …
