Power plant builders look to joint ventures at Engines '96

MOSCOW--With the aviation industry in Russia and the CIS in a crisis situation that could well prove to be terminal, wisdom is that the aero-engine industry would be in as bad a condition.

But that is not quite the case. Certainly, the industry has big problems. But while most of the aircraft design and manufacturing organizations have sat back and waited for the government to race to their rescue cavalrylike, the engine industry has gone searching for new partners. And the search produced Gazprom, Russia's major provider of energy and fuels, which has a need to bring much of its production to the market along thousands of kilometers of pipeline, with power plants pumping it from recovery to the refineries and to the market. …
