Dornier's fate, EMB-145 display, FAA funding highlight Spring Meeting

ORLANDO--The probable sale of Dornier to Aircraft, the display of Embraer's sleek EMB-145 regional airliner, the unveiling of a new public-relations campaign for members and a compromise on funding FAA reform were among highlights of RAA's 3-day annual Spring Meeting.

On the manufacturing front, San Antonio-based Fairchild confirmed reports that it will acquire Daimler-Benz Aerospace's Dornier Luftfahrt Div. The sale includes the Do 228 and 328 programs, international logistics, overhaul/maintenance work, and Airbus component production. Work on the German Air Force AWACS program is excluded. The sale is being opposed by the Dornier family, which owns 47% of the company but controls only 20% of the voting stock.

Sources at DASA dispute the family's claim, arguing that this clause was modified subsequent to the purchase. The DASA board was scheduled to meet in early June to discuss the sale and the issues surrounding the family's opposition with a compromise as the aim.

Meanwhile, Fairchild remains adamant that the transaction will result in its acquiring more than 50% of Dornier, with DASA retaining a minority share. …
