Crossair's assumption of Swissair's 100-seat operations and Balair's charters brought the inevitable growing pains

BASEL--"Last year, we were standing at the bottom of the ladder," Moritz Suter, vice chairman and CEO of the Swiss regional airline Crossair, said. "Now, we have climbed up some of the steps. It has been pretty tough for the management and for all the people in the company."

At headquarters here, Suter is referring to the remarkable expansion program that Crossair is pushing through following the decision that it should take over all of Swissair's regional routes with aircraft of up to 100 seats, plus the short/medium-haul operations of the Swissair charter company Balair/CTA.

It was more of an explosion than an expansion. …
