Oil prices claim Airlines in US, Hong Kong.(News Briefs)

Soaring fuel prices contributed to the failure this spring of three small US carriers that accounted for around 1% of US ASMs, while a fourth, larger carrier, Frontier Airlines, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection but continues to operate. Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines also ceased operations.

Honolulu-based Aloha Airlines filed for bankruptcy March 20 and shut down 11 days later after 61 years of service, throwing some 1,900 employees out of work. It had not been profitable since emerging from a previous bankruptcy two years ago and had been engaged in tough competition among itself, Hawaiian Airlines and go!, a subsidiary of Mesa Air Group. …
