Qantas reported a profit of A$618.1 million ($566.4 million) in the fiscal first half ended Dec. 31, more than double the A$307.3 million earned in the year-ago period. Jetstar had a A$113 million profit. Qantas said it sees "no significant dampening in demand in most markets" going forward save "some softening" in the UK and "continued weakness" in Japan.

Half-year revenue climbed 6.4% to A$8.13 billion against a 3% rise in costs to A$7.28 billion. Operating profit jumped 48.6% to A$849.6 million from A$571.6 million in the earlier period. …
