Changi's newest treasure.(AIRPORTS)(Changi International Airport Services Private Ltd.)

That well could have been the headline for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore as it opened its S$1.75 billion ($1.20 billion) Terminal 3 at Changi Airport on Jan. 9. Impressive is hardly the word. "Stunning" better describes T3's spectacular roof that allows filtered light to enter the terminal, its magnificent gardens and a bright yet soothing color scheme.


Prior to its opening, Changi, while voted year-in-year-out as one of the world's best airports, lacked the "wow" factor of polished marble floors and spectacular ceilings of Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur International or the sheer magnificence of Hong Kong International at Chek Lap Kok. The 380,000-sq.-m., 1.7-km.-long T3 changes all that and adds another airport first, a five-story vertical garden called the Green Wall. Spanning 300 m., the Green Wall can be admired from both arrivals and departure halls and has four cascading waterfalls. …
