EgyptAir, which operates 48 aircraft to 60 destinations in 44 countries, will become Star Alliance's 21st member when it joins "within the next 18 months." Air China, Shanghai Airlines and Turkish Airlines also are preparing to join. Star CEO Jaan Albrecht said, "Egypt is one of the most important aviation markets in Africa, with a large potential for both business and leisure travel," while EgyptAir Chairman and CEO Atef Abdel Hamid said the country has a "strategic location which offers a good link between Africa, the Middle East and Europe to the rest of the world. …
