Booming tourism, regional focus boost Muscat.

The opening up of Oman to tourism and foreign investment combined with a regional boom in air travel have left Muscat's Seeb International Airport (MCT) playing catch-up, with passenger numbers soaring by an unprecedented 26% in 2006, according to Arthur D. Little.

This brings the airport close to its capacity of 5 million, with 4.7 million people passing through the terminal last year, up from 3.7 million just a year earlier. Although the increase stems from a relatively conservative base, it also is reflected in the cargo (up 31% over the previous year) and aircraft movement (up 20%) sectors, underlining the overall level of growth.
