Stating that the airline industry "needs a wakeup call," IATA DG and CEO Giovanni Bisignani challenged it to achieve zero emissions within 50 years. "Air transport must become an industry that does not pollute," he declared at organization's 63rd AGM in Vancouver last month. While stating that "our track record is good," he also acknowledged that aviation's carbon footprint is growing, "and that is not acceptable to any industry."
