Hit the deck!(odds & ends)(Tom LeBoutiller briefs about the shooting of the airline photo)

Many of us have seen the black and white version of this photograph of a Delta Air Lines Convair 880 taken by Larry Pullen, but another photographer, Tom LeBoutiller, was standing beside Larry that day in Houston in 1972 and was shooting with color film. Tom told his story to ATW.

Larry had invited Tom to join him in an early morning shoot to get photos of the eight CV-880s all scheduled to depart at 8 a.m. (some things never change).

Larry took Tom to the pilot ready room, where Tom observed Larry briefly talking with the crews about his plans. "I wish he'd briefed me," Tom recalled years later.

Larry had left nothing to chance and had the pair transported to the far end of Runway 8. …
