Virgin Atlantic Airways' recent order for up to 43 787s (see Equipment, p. 19) includes an "environmental partnership" between airline and manufacturer that covers a biofuel demonstration on a Virgin 747-400 next year. The project, which also will involve GE Aviation (although Virgin has not formally announced an engine choice), will be the first of its kind, according to the carrier, and is aimed at developing "sustainable fuel sources suitable for commercial jet engines. …
