Transatlantic dance begins.(News Briefs)(United States- Europe open skies agreement)

The US-EU open skies agreement approved by the European Council in late March will not take effect until March 30, 2008, but partners already are aligning in anticipation. United Airlines and bmi refiled their request for antitrust immunity to cooperate on transatlantic services, Iberia was put in play (see next item) and British Airways and American Airlines were expected to resubmit their application for antitrust immunity now that London Heathrow will be open to all.

Under terms of the agreement, which was set to be signed April 30, EU investors will be allowed to own more than 49.9% of a US airline's combined voting and nonvoting stock "on a case-by-case basis," but the current 25% limit on voting stock will be maintained. …
