Brian Rowe, a giant in the history of jet engines and a man closely associated with the rise of General Electric into the leadership position it currently enjoys in the jet engine business, died Feb. 22 following surgery. Rowe led GE-Aviation from 1979 to 1993, serving as the division's president and CEO as well as a corporate senior VP.

He was born in London in 1931 and was working on engines before he was 18 with de Havilland Engine Co. After achieving a BS degree in mechanical engineering, he joined GE in 1957. In 1968 he took over as GM of the CF6 project department. He was elected VP and GM-Commercial Engine Projects Division in 1972, VP and GM-Airline Programs Division in 1974 and VP and GM-Aircraft Engineering Division in 1976. …
