Passenger rights bill sought in US.(News Briefs)(Brief article)

US airlines hope once again that a series of voluntary measures will thwart a federal "passenger bill of rights" springing from operational problems experienced by American Airlines and JetBlue Airways in late December and mid-February respectively. In both instances, hundreds of passengers were stranded on idle aircraft for multiple hours, a situation that recalled the much larger Northwest Airlines incident in Detroit eight years ago that nearly led to a bill of rights.

Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) introduced a passenger rights bill in the House of Representatives to require airlines to allow passengers to leave aircraft if a ground delay lasts longer than 3 hr. …
