The carrier took a large step toward emerging from bankruptcy at the end of May when its pilots ratified a new concessionary package valued by management at $280 million annually. The cuts are in addition to $1 billion in givebacks from the pilots in late 2004. Delta, which has set a target of $3 billion in financial benefits during its Chapter 11 reorganization, now says it will achieve 70% of the savings by year end, with exit from bankruptcy anticipated in the first half of 2007. At the time of its filing last September, it said Chapter 11 would permit it to reconfigure its fleet, including eliminating four fleet types by the end of 2006.
