Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, parent of Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo, is finding its footing two years after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. William Flynn, formerly head of GeoLogistics, took over as president and CEO in June, replacing the retired Jeffrey Erickson, who guided Atlas through its reorganization. Flynn joins a company still in transition.

Polar retired four 747-200Fs, a dash 100F and a dash 300F this year, reducing its fleet of 11 freighters to five dash 400Fs. A sixth dash 400F was transferred from Atlas's fleet. The smaller fleet and retirement of older aircraft requiring three-person crews mean that Polar will furlough a to-be-determined number of pilots later this year. …
