Air Canada Jazz: America)(Brief article)

The former wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada parent ACE Aviation Holdings was spun off into the Jazz Air Income Fund with ACE maintaining around 80% of the airline. As of May 1, Jazz operated some 756 weekday departures to 52 destinations in Canada and 27 in the US with a mixed fleet of regional jets and turboprops under a 10-year capacity purchase agreement with AC that was implemented in October 2004.

As with its US counterparts, AC has outsourced much of its domestic flying to Jazz as it works to right-size capacity while seeking growth opportunities outside its home country. "Our focus is on supplementing and feeding Air Canada, which has been a little bit of a change in our role from years ago when it was point-to-point," says CEO Joseph Randell, though the carrier still provides some limited point-to-point flying within Canada. …
