A decade of state ownership by government holding company Cintra finally came to an end with December's sale of the airline to Mexican hotel chain Grupo Posadas for $165 million. GP also acquired Mexicana's LCC alter-ego Click and assumed $294 million in debt and $997 million in aircraft lease obligations. The larger AeroMexico is still controlled by Cintra--now called Consorcio Aeromexico.

While Mexicana trails AeroMexico in domestic market share, it generates 60% of its revenue from international services and is the country's largest international operator with flights to such disparate markets as Baltimore, Las Vegas, Montreal, San Salvador and Madrid. …
