The carrier continues to recover from effects of the December 2004 tsunami that devastated the tourist trade. SriLankan, which is 43% owned by Emirates Group, remodeled its network after the cataclysm with the aim of building Colombo as a hub for the region rather than concentrating on lower-yield tourism traffic. It claims to have become the largest foreign carrier serving India and such services make up 40% of its activities with 88 weekly flights to 10 destinations.
