India's largest domestic airline, with an average 37% capacity share in its fiscal year ended March 31, will account for an estimated one of every two seats in India when it completes its $500 million takeover of Air Sahara, expected following regulatory approval before summer's end.

A strong fourth quarter propelled Jet to a $100.1 million profit for the fiscal year, up 15% over FY05. According to Chairman and founder Naresh Goyal, it not only is the largest airline in the country but also the most profitable. Nevertheless, the emergence of startups like Air Deccan, Kingfisher and SpiceJet is presenting new challenges (ATW, 4/06, p. 36).
