The Taiwanese carrier earned a modest profit of TWD1.33 billion ($41.2 million) last year, a 59% plunge from the previous year as fuel took a toll on the bottom line and accounted for 40% of costs. EVA now flies to 40 destinations in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America. With the arrival of A330s and 777s it has revamped its cabins and rolled out AVOD. Freight is half of its operation and it expects that to grow to 60%. It has added cargo capacity by wet-leasing three MD-11 freighters from World Airways, bringing its MD-11F fleet to 15 and enabling it to boost frequency on its Taipei-New York JFK and Taipei-Atlanta routes. …
