New expansive passenger rights regulations took effect in the European Union on Feb. 17. The regulations, which are the subject of a legal challenge by IATA, raise denied boarding compensation to as much as 600 [euro] ($780) per passenger and set the minimum payment at 250 [euro]. Airlines also will be required to reimburse passengers for flight cancellations and delays.

A day before the rules came into force, the EC adopted a draft regulation establishing the rights of persons with reduced mobility to use air transport and outlawing discrimination on the basis of age or disability. …
