Airbus 'rolls up' the A330. (Airbus Industrie introduces new aircraft)

TOULOUSE--There have been roll-outs of new airliners in plenty, also roll-ins. But when it unveiled the latest member of its European family, the A330, Airbus Industrie found a new form for this type of aerospace junket: The roll-up.

It all began in the semidark, guests sitting in rows across Airbus's new hangar. Managing Director Jean Pierson welcomed heads of the four partners, Aerospatiale, Deutsche Airbus, British Aerospace and CASA, then representatives of the 14 airlines and lessors that have placed a total of 143 firm orders: Air Inter, Cathay Pacific, Continental, Euralair, Garuda, GPA, ILFC, Korean Air, LTU, Lufttrafik, Malaysia, Northwest, Thai International and TWA. …
