Boeing last month said it will end production of the 717 when it fulfills its existing backlog, which totaled 32 at year end. The company took a charge of $340 million against fourth-quarter earnings to reflect the cost of ending production, which is likely to occur in 2006.

"The 717 brings tremendous value to the airlines that operate it. Unfortunately, the overall market for the airplane does not support continuing 717 production beyond delivering our current commitments," Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Alan Mulally said in a statement. …
