Continental Airlines warned in early Jan. that its recent order for 10 7E7s (see Equipment) could be in jeopardy if it cannot achieve agreements with its employees to save $500 million annually. In Dec., the carrier detailed sweeping pay and benefit reductions for its 5,200 US-based management and clerical employees that will result in $48 million in savings. Separately, it finalized changes to wages and salaries, benefits and work rules for its reservations and Chelsea food service employees resulting in $22 million in annual savings. …
