NORWICH, England--Regional airports and airlines have been missed out by the sector of the aviation industry that designs and builds ramp vehicles, Mark Stone, managing director of the British company Norwich Coachworks (Norcolift) believes.

"These people have completely different ground-support requirements to those of their larger competitors," he told ATW. "Often, they have to make do with vehicles built to service widebody aircraft or designed for a different purpose altogether.

"For instance, I've seen fork-lift trucks pressed into service to disembark invalid and disabled passengers from flights. The passengers are embarrassed and are made to feel a nuisance. The aviation industry really ought to be able to do better than thiS. …
