Ryanair moved quickly to fill the vacuum created by Volare's collapse, adding new flights and capacity to bring its routes to Italy to 65. Ryanair executives predicted a coming "bloodbath" resulting in the collapse of loss-making low-fare airlines. "With intense competition all over Europe and high oil prices, only the strongest low-fare airlines will survive," Deputy CEO Michael Cawley said.

Ryanair is establishing new bases at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport and at Shannon, Ireland, basing four 737-800s at each. …
