Aircom fills the gaps. (Satellite Aircom systems provides advanced aviation communications)

PARIS--The airlines' traditional telecoms and information-services provider Societe Internationale de Telecommunications (SITA)--established 1949 and going very strong today, with 42 billion messages handled each year-- lost no time moving into the latest sector of aviation communications with a system coded Satellite Aircom.

Satellite Aircom extends the company's VHF Aircom system, to which SITA has 40 airline subscribers. This has been in operation for some years, providing digital communications in real time between aircraft in flight and airlines' ground computers, using dedicated VHF frequencies and a worldwide network of ground stations.
