Key Alitalia unions accept restructuring deals.(Alitalia Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A.)(Brief Article)

Alitalia ground workers and pilots in mid-Sept, accepted restructuring packages that the airline said collectively will save 202 million [euro] ($246 million). The agreements will result in 2,500 job cuts among ground staff while the pilots' deal will mean 289 redundancies and an additional 100 cuts achieved through retirements. At press time the flight attendants were expected to conclude their own agreement as well.

Under Alitalia's restructuring plan unveiled in early Sept., the company would be split into AZ-Fly, which would focus on air transport, and AZ-Service, which would concentrate on support activities.
