Delta to eliminate up to 7,000 more jobs.(Brief Article)

Delta Air Lines plans to cut 6,000-7,000 jobs over the next 18 months, reduce pay and benefits for those who remain, close its Dallas/Ft. Worth operation, de-peak its Atlanta hub and eliminate four subfleets as part of a transformation plan that aims to achieve $5 billion in annual savings by 2006, the carrier announced Sept. 8.

But Delta warned that in spite of these steps it could not rule out a bankruptcy filing owing to "rapid deterioration of its financial condition" coupled with a possible operational disruption from anticipated pilot retirements. …
