EC approves bridge loan for Alitalia.(Brief Article)

As expected, the European Commission on July 20 approved rescue aid for struggling Mitalia in the form of a 400 million [euro] ($492 million) bridge loan that the cash-strapped carrier has said it needs to stay in the air. The EC said the loan is warranted on the grounds of "serious social difficulties," as 22,200 salaried staff and 8,000 other jobs are linked to the company's future.
