Alliance open for business. (American Airlines' new maintenance facility located at Alliance Airport, Texas)

American Airlines' new maintenance base at Alliance Airport, near Ft. Worth, Tex., is open and running. Although the "official" opening was held in January, actual maintenance activities were started last October, with the arrival of a Boeing 757 for test fittings of the docks and a 767 for modifications to its interior.

Primary function of the new facility will be to handle the heavy C checks for the airline's 757/767 aircraft. An overhaul shop eventually will handle the Rolls-Royce engines, according to Bob Rumbaugh, Alliance base manager.

Heavy maintenance on American's McDonnell Douglas MD-80s, DC-10s, MD-11s and Boeing 727s, as well as overhaul work on the Pratt & Whitney and GE engines, will continue to be done at the Tulsa facility (ATW, 3/90). …
