Riding a significant increase in international revenue, UPS reported a $2.9 billion net profit for 2003, a 19.8% jump compared to net profit excluding onetime items of $2.42 billion in 2002. The company continued its strong performance in the 2004 first quarter, posting a $759 million net profit, a 28% increase versus net profit excluding unusuals of $593 million in the 2003 first quarter.

Despite the strong results, UPS reportedly is seeking to cancel at least 20 of the A300600 freighters it ordered between 1998 and 2001 as a result of changes in the market for express document and package services. As of the end of January it had 90 aircraft on order and 32 had been delivered. …
