Shareholders in Colombian airline ACES decided to liquidate the carrier last August rather than attempt to save it through bankruptcy. Alianza Summa, a linkage formed last year of ACES with Avianca and its subsidiary SAM, said initially it would cover the routes operated by ACES and retain 523 of the airline's 1,272 staff.

According to news reports, the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, which owns 50% of ACES, was unwilling to bail the carrier out. …
