In what Chairman Richard Branson called "impressive" results, the UK long-haul airline reported a pre-tax profit of more than 20 million [pounds sterling] ($36.8 million) for the 10 months ended Feb. 29. The carrier changed its fiscal year end from April to February to fit in with the reporting requirements of its shareholders, Virgin Group and Singapore Airlines, so prior-year comparative data were not provided.

During the year Virgin introduced its new Upper Class Suite, which is now flying on 20% of its fleet; moved from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 at New York JFK, and took delivery of two A340-600s and its 13th 747-400. In April it received another A340-600 and will add three to its fleet this year. …
