SN Brussels Airlines.(Europe)(Brief Article)

The successor to defunct Sabena decided not to acquire financially troubled former Sabena charter subsidiary Sobelair but instead is buying its Brussels competitor Virgin Express. The combined company will continue to operate separate airline brands, with Virgin Express a no-frills carrier and SN Brussels a full-service airline. A detailed plan has yet to emerge, however.

Whether the enlarged entity will stay independent is unknown. SNBA board member Etienne Davignon said last October that majority shareholders aimed to start negotiating the sale of their stake in the second half of 2004. British Airways CEO Rod Eddington said earlier this year that BA might be interested. …
