While Luxair Group closed FY03 with a net profit, although sharply reduced from FY02, its airline business was not profitable owing to SARS, Iraq, a difficult economic situation and LCC competition. Passenger numbers fell, load factor slid, capacity was nearly flat and RPKs dropped more than 6%. Additionally, "In 2003 our company and employees were deeply marked by the [fatal F50 crash in] November 2002 and by the painful grief suffered by the victims of the accident," noted chairman Alain Georges.
