Spreading its wings, Qantas has moved into the Asia market with its low-cost carrier initiative in a bid to tap the region's massive growth from a Singapore base. The Singapore government's commercial arm Temasek took a 19% stake in the venture. Ironically, Temasek owns 56% of Singapore Airlines and 9% of SIA LCC Tiger Airways. By aligning with Temasek, which also owns Changi, Qantas ensured that it would get critical traffic rights to countries such as India, China including Hong Kong and Vietnam. …
