Like many other airlines in Asia, Garuda Indonesia is riding the wave of recovery and reaping the rewards of cost-cutting. This year it expects to double its profit to 500 billion rupiahs ($58 million). It forecasts that operating revenues will increase to 11 trillion rupiahs, prompting it to lease up to 13 aircraft in 2004. Its fleet plans are built around the 737, A330, 767 and 747, but it has no plans to dispose of its DC-10-30s or F28s.

Garuda's regional focus is on the China market, where growth has been 10% a year for the past five years. …
