Despite a dramatic turnaround in the second half of 2003 after the SAPS scare quieted, China Southern posted a net loss for the year of nearly 360 million yuan ($43.4 million) compared with a 2002 profit exceeding 575 million yuan. And the recovery trend was good, with passenger traffic growing 14.8% in the second half compared to the same period in 2002.

On the back of the bullish traffic results, the airline has committed to 21 A320 family aircraft to nearly double its A320/A319 fleet. …
