The start of Dubai-New York JFK daily A340-500 nonstop service last month was the airline's initial transatlantic venture. It came on the heels of a fiscal year that saw profits surge 73.5% to a record net as passenger traffic rose 23%.

The fleet has grown to 67 aircraft, including five freighters, serving 75 destinations in 53 countries. Capacity is programmed to rise 26% during the current financial year. And with 90 new aircraft in the pipeline, including 45 A380s, Emirates expects its fleet to continue to expand by at least one new aircraft per month for the rest of the decade on track for a 130-plus fleet by 2012.

All three global alliances have courted the carrier. …
