EC looking into slot transfers at heathrow.(Brief Article)

The EC informed the UK government via a so-called Opening Letter that it will initiate an infringement procedure against the UK in regard to slot trading. The letter was sent in the second week of May and the UK has two months to respond. Apparently the request for information does not focus primarily on slot payments, although this practice is technically illegal, but rather on the transfer of unused slots, which according to EC rules should have gone back to the slot pool to be redistributed.

European slot regulations nowhere mention "trading" of slots but they clearly outlaw slot transfers and only permit free-of-charge slot exchanges. …
