EU transport council rejects OAA agreement.(Brief Article)

As expected, EU transport ministers last month rejected a tentative transatlantic Open Aviation Area agreement over the issue of cabotage and directed the European Commission to negotiate one that better addresses access to US domestic markets. The proposed agreement, which would have opened London Heathrow to all carriers for UK-US services--although without tackling slot constraints--and created a mechanism by which European airlines could charter capacity on a US carrier and use it as their own operation within the US, was opposed widely by European aviation interests. …
