Airline media/public relations award: Japan Airlines (18th Annual Air Transport World Awards)

Our media and public-relations salute goes to an airline media and/or public-relations staff that has demonstrated innovation, extra effort and consistent excellence in maintaining outstanding relations with the media and the public. The basic ingredients for the award are an airline's willingness to commit the resources necessary for such an undertaking and the staffs ability to do the job.

Our winner for 1991 is the public-relations staff of Japan Airlines. For many years, JAL has been the flag carrier of Japan with the majority of its operations in the international arena.

Such operations, with their geographic and linguistic challenges, pose special problems in an airline's dealings with media and the public. …
