A recent subscription-promotion bulletin distributed by a reputable airline newsletter warns the airline executive reader to beware of financial traps in the months head, thus implying that 1992 is going to be a chaotic year for the world airline industry. Its editors promise airline managements the "most hectic period of change and crisis ever experienced by the industry."

The bulletin's publisher wants to know: "Are you prepared for emerging airline start-ups, impending foreclosures, bankruptcies . . . mergers and acquisitions . . . and new business" opportunities in the U.S. and abroad? And are you fully mindful of the roles that public opinion and government actions will play in shaping your company's policies during the next 12 months? …
