SkyWest posts 45.6% increase in profits.(financial reports)(Brief Article)

SkyWest Airlines reported net income of $19.4 million for the first quarter ended March 31, up 45.6% over net income of $13.3 million in the prior-year period. Total operating revenue rose 22.4% to $253.7 million and total operating expenses climbed 16.9% to $218.8 million, resulting in operating income of $34.9 million, a 73% increase versus operating income of $20.1 million in the 2003 first quarter.

At the unit level, yield dipped 6.5% to 21.5 cents on a 29.9% gain in traffic while passenger RASM declined 4.4% to 15.2 cents principally from the carrier's operating a greater percentage of regional jets than in the prior period, it said. …
